The CSU, which co‑chairs the federal coalition, sharply rejects the SPD’s proposal to eliminate marital tax splitting.
“We are firmly opposed to attempts to abolish marital tax splitting” CSU General Secretary Martin Huber told the newspapers of the Bayern media group. “Spouses who earn different incomes should not be disadvantaged for tax reasons. That would raise taxes for married couples and constitute a massive intrusion into personal life histories. We decisively reject it”.
Huber said the party’s slogan should instead be “lower taxes, not higher”. “We want to relieve families, not burden them”.
