On Monday evening the AfD’s federal board apparently reached a unanimous decision not to file a party‑expulsion motion against youth official Kevin Dorow. According to “Die Welt”, the board negotiated a deal with the 27‑year‑old: Dorow will resign from all his positions in the party and in the youth wing Generation Deutschland (GD). In return, the party leadership will apply only a two‑year office ban against him at the AfD’s Schleswig‑Holstein state arbitration court.
Dorow holds several posts. He is a deputy in the GD’s federal board, a deputy in the Schleswig‑Holstein state board of the AfD, and vice‑chair of the Rendsburg‑Eckernförde district council. In February the AfD’s federal board brought a serious charge against him, saying that four of his statements “in their totality obviously indicated a closeness to National Socialism”. The party said it did not want to be associated with “pro‑National Socialism attitudes”.
The board declared Dorow “unacceptable as a party member” and claimed he had “greatly harmed” the AfD. The expulsion process had become public through a “Politico” report, prompting sharp criticism from many party officials and elected members.
“I welcome the federal board’s decision to withdraw the expulsion proceedings” Dorow told “Die Welt”. “To make this compromise possible, to calm the current personnel debate, and to bring the focus back to substantive political work, I am stepping down from all posts in the party and youth organization”.
GD federal chair Jean‑Pascal Hohm added: “I would have preferred a complete withdrawal of the party disciplinary action, as I still consider it an over‑reach. The compromise that has now been reached, however, shows that both the AfD and Generation Deutschland are willing to negotiate and find workable solutions together”.
