According to a recent Forsa poll measuring voter sentiment, the Union’s support has slipped again, leaving the CDU and CSU just ahead of the AfD. In the weekly survey conducted for RTL and ntv, the two parties lost a point each and now stand at 26 percent. The AfD has gained two percentage points, bringing its share to 25 percent.
The Greens remain clear of the SPD, with 15 percent of the electorate backing them, while the SPD’s support has plateaued at 12 percent. The Left dropped one point from the previous week, falling to 10 percent. Numbers for the BSW (3 percent) and other parties (9 percent) stayed unchanged, and the FDP remains below the 3‑percent threshold, counted among the “others”. The share of non‑voters and undecided voters is 25 percent, still higher than the 17.9 percent non‑voter rate recorded at the last federal election.
On assessments of political competence, the Union has taken a significant hit, losing two points to just 17 percent. The AfD has climbed two points to 13 percent. The Greens receive the highest confidence (8 percent) for tackling the country’s problems (+1), followed by the SPD (4 percent) and the Left (3 percent, -2). Nevertheless, more than half of the electorate (52 percent) continues to trust no party with political competence.
Satisfaction with the current chancellor, Friedrich Merz (CDU), remains low. Only 25 percent of respondents are content with his performance, while 74 percent are dissatisfied. This level of satisfaction is essentially unchanged from the previous week and sits only slightly above the chancellor’s historical lowest point.
The survey was conducted from March 17 to March 23 and included 2,501 participants.
