Juso Leaders Demand Office Split for Bas and Klingbeil Amid Growing Calls for Accountability

Following the remarks of Juso federal chair Philipp Türmer, state chairpersons are now demanding clear personnel and substantive consequences.

“We have to start nudging ourselves, daring to take action” said Benedict Lang, head of the Bavarian Young Socialists, to the Tagesspiegel. Instead of creating the mood, we simply follow it and hand over the desire to shape society to a figurative wardrobe. Lang blames this on the fact that both party leaders are part of the Merz cabinet. “This concentration of offices has clearly failed and must be dissolved promptly” he said.

In terms of policy, Lang wants distribution issues front and centre. “If the SPD could fight the hand‑over with the same confidence it defends its power, we would already be a step further” he added.

His colleague from North Rhine‑Westphalia shares this stance and wants to put the struggle against injustice into the spotlight. “We live in a country where the richest one percent let the community lift them up while contributing far too little in return” said Nina Gaedike to the Tagesspiegel. She argued that the money in a family’s household determines a child’s future more than the child’s interests and abilities. According to her, this can be changed, but the SPD must move from talk to action. She proposes lowering the monthly taxes for average earners by 200 €, while raising those for the super‑rich.

The NRW state chair does not call for the withdrawal of Klingbeil and Bas, but she warns against isolation and self‑absorption. “I gladly insert myself into a social‑democratic struggle aimed at greater justice for all those who are not born with a golden spoon in their mouth – not into a fortress” she said.
