Trump Reports Good Talks With Iran As Ultimatum Extended

The United States and Iran have begun talks, according to U.S. President Donald Trump, in an effort to find a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the Middle East. On Monday, Trump posted on Truth Social: “I am delighted to report that the United States of America and Iran, in the last two days, have held very good and productive discussions about a full and comprehensive settlement of our hostilities in the Middle East”. He said that because of the tenor and tone of these “deep, detailed, and constructive conversations” which are to continue throughout the week, he has directed the Department of Defense to halt all military attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a period of five days. Trump had originally issued Iran a 48‑hour ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz, an deadline that would have expired early Tuesday morning. The current pause is “subject to the success of ongoing meetings and discussions” Trump added.
