Bundesliga Surprise Freiburg Upsets St Pauli 2 1 With Late Turnaround

On matchday 27 the SC Freiburg won 2‑1 against FC St Pauli.
St Pauli took the lead in the 24th minute when Danel Sinani struck a long‑range shot from a corner after beating Tomoya Ando in a header duel, sending the ball over the line. The home side appeared fresher in the first half and repeatedly troubled the Freiburger defense, but ultimately failed to turn it into a goal.

Freiburg started to fight back in the second half, creating more chances. In the 65th minute they equalised: Match‑winner Igor Matanovic initiated the play, set up Vincenzo Grifo whose shot was parried, and then channeled the ball decisively into the net. Just 13 minutes later, in the 78th minute, Matanovic capitalised on a rebound off goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj to score the winner.

In the league table, Hamburg remains in 16th place just above the relegation zone, while Freiburg stays in eighth. St Pauli will resume their campaign against Union Berlin on 5 April after the international break, whereas Freiburg will face Bayern Munich the day before.
