At the end of matchday 27 in the 2. Bundesliga, Hertha BSC beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 5‑2 in Düsseldorf.
In the fourth minute the hosts took the lead after an own goal by Linus Gechter. Hertha, however, was unfazed and drew level in the 18th minute when Fabian Reese lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper following a pass from Brekalo. The next goal came in the 26th minute, when Reese, after a quick counter‑attack over the defence of Marten Winkler and Dawid Kownacki, put Hertha back in front. Just before the break, Kownacki headed a cross to make it 3‑1. In stoppage time, Winkler extended the lead further with a spectacular long‑range strike.
After the break, Düsseldorf fought for an equaliser and finally succeeded in the 54th minute when Cedric Itten headed in a cross from Appelkamp. Nonetheless, Hertha defended skilfully until the final whistle, denying the visitors any further chances. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Luca Schuler sealed the win with a decisive goal.
Hertha remains in sixth place, while Düsseldorf stays on eleventh. The Düsseldorf side will resume play after the national‑team break on 4 April in Kaiserslautern; Hertha will take on Dynamo Dresden on the same day. The results of the parallel fixtures on Sunday afternoon were: VfL Bochum 2-3 Holstein Kiel, and Preußen Münster 1-3 1. FC Magdeburg.
