BVB Parts Ways Unexpectedly With Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl

Sebastian Kehl is no longer the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga club announced on Sunday that the board and Kehl had reached a mutual agreement to end their collaboration.

“In a very open conversation, Sebastian Kehl, Carsten Cramer and I concluded that summer was the right time for change” said Lars Ricken, the club’s sporting director. To allow both sides to prepare, they decided on an immediate termination of Kehl’s duties.

Kehl had been in charge of the licence‑players department from 2018, during which time the club won the DFB‑Pokal in 2021. He took over as sporting director in the summer of 2022 and guided the Black and Whites to the Champions League final in 2024.
