Rhineland‑Palatinate State Election Sees Roughly 40% Voter Turnout by 10AM

By 10 a.m., roughly 40 % of eligible voters in the Rhineland‑Palatinate state election had already cast their ballots. About 34 % had requested postal voting, and another six % voted in the first two hours after the polling stations opened, said state election commissioner Marco Ludwig.

A direct comparison with the 2021 election is limited. At that time, because of the COVID‑19 pandemic, 44 % of eligible voters used postal voting, and only a very low single‑digit share of voters appeared at the polling stations during the first two hours. The overall turnout in 2021 was 64.3 %.

Polling stations remain open until 6 p.m., after which the first projections will be released.
