Trump Issues Iran Ultimatum, Threatens Power Plant Attacks

President Donald Trump issued a fresh ultimatum to Iran via a short‑message post on the platform Truth Social. He warned that if Iran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States would strike and destroy a series of Iranian power plants, beginning with the largest refinery.

Trump’s threat represents another escalation in his rhetoric, following earlier comments in which he hinted at targeting Iranian infrastructure but cautioned that such actions could hamper the country’s capacity to rebuild. The closure of the Strait, he said, gives Iran significant leverage. The 48‑hour deadline, tied to the time of the tweet, ended on Tuesday at 2 a.m. German time.

The warning came after Trump announced that the United States might withdraw some of its military forces from the Middle East. In recent days he also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease attacks on Iranian oil and gas facilities. In response, Iran threatened to strike U.S. infrastructure in the region if Trump carried out the promised attacks.
