The Vice President of the Bundestag, Omid Nouripour of the Greens, urged the German government to strengthen its fight against Iranian regime structures in Germany and to more actively support the Iranian opposition.
“Nouripour told “Welt am Sonntag” that pressure must be increased” he said. He called on Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt of the CSU to issue a ban on the conduct of regime officials travelling to Tehran. “It is unbearable that on Al‑Quds Day-when a protest was staged again in Germany last week-the public is encouraged to call for the destruction of Israel and to spread antisemitism” he added, noting that he himself was born in Tehran.
He argued that German financial structures used by the Iranian government also need to be tackled, citing reports of regime-affiliated hotels in Frankfurt that he described as “money‑printing machines for a system”.
Berlin must make its stance against the regime clearer and more visible, he insisted. “Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace laureate, was brutally beaten in prison a few weeks ago” Nouripour recounted. “The government has not reacted to that”. He sees dissidents as the only realistic path to systemic change.
