The federal government is urging patience amid the sharp rise in energy prices following the war in the Middle East. Deputy government spokesperson Sebastian Hille told the dts news agency on Friday that the measures decided by the cabinet should first take effect. He was referring to the fuel‑price package that is set to be passed by the Bundestag next week. Under the package, gasoline stations will be allowed to raise prices only once a day, and the cartel office will receive additional control powers.
Hille said that monitoring energy prices goes beyond the pumps and that any further steps will need a period of patience for their effects to materialise. He added that active observation will continue and that additional measures may be introduced, but he did not specify their details or potential impact. When asked how long the government would wait before proposing new measures, the spokesperson replied that the timeline will become clear once further actions are set in motion.
