Actor Alexander Scheer revealed details about his medical diagnosis and past drug use in an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. “I have severe ADHD” Scheer told the paper, saying the condition was identified when his girlfriend noticed his symptoms and had him checked by a doctor who confirmed the diagnosis. He added that he doesn’t view it as a major problem; his only issue, he said, is forming long, nested sentences in interviews as if there were no time to think.
Scheer explained that he uses his ADHD productively. “I handle everything well-my hyperfocus, the way my mind can process multiple events at once. I can manage six tasks simultaneously” he said. For the intensive reading required to prepare for his current David Bowie tribute night, however, he did rely on medication: “You can definitely get something prescribed for that. I only take it rarely, when I really need to concentrate-like when I wanted to read twelve books”. He says the effect is tremendous: “Reading is difficult for me normally, but with that pill I’m able to read almost a book per day”.
He also spoke openly about experimenting with other substances. When asked which of the drugs David Bowie allegedly used he had tried, Scheer simply answered, “All”. He contextualized this by saying, “I’m a kid from the 90s, from East Berlin. We had a lot to catch up on, and Berlin was the freest place in the universe back then. Naturally we celebrated that”.
In his current professional life, Scheer strictly rejects drugs: “At some point I realized that you can’t both party and study; acting is a team sport. Drugs are doping, which goes against the Olympic idea that performance comes from you”. He contrasted this with his stance in music: “In music, I can tolerate drugs. Music deals with fire at night, coming from shamanism and ecstasy-it doesn’t hinder the use of drugs. Put a Rolling Stones record on, and you’ll hear every gram”.
As an example of his own drug experience, Scheer described a scene from his youth: “I once saw a ‘Day Peacock Eye’ on a house wall from 100 meters away, with almost microscopic detail. When I got there, it was really there” he said. “I think I was on psycho‑hallucinogenic mushrooms or micro‑dosed chemicals”.
