The UAE’s ambassador to Germany, Ahmed Alattar, told the “Handelsblatt” that his country is currently in a “state of self‑defence” and demanded an immediate halt to Iran‑led attacks.
He pointed out that no other nation is being targeted by Iran as severely as the UAE. Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has called on Gulf neighbours to close all U.S. bases in the region or else confrontations will continue.
Alattar clarified that the UAE will not permit its territory to be used for strikes against Iran, yet Iran persists in launching rockets and drones specifically at residential buildings, airports and other civilian facilities. To curb further escalation, the UAE will continue to work closely with the United States. He also stressed that the UAE reserves its complete right to self‑defence under international law.
For years the UAE has cultivated an image as a safe haven in the Middle East, a logistics hub, a financial centre and a luxury destination. The ongoing Iran conflict threatens this business model. Nevertheless, the ambassador said the country intends to uphold its international investment strategy and remains hopeful for a diplomatic solution-though this can only be achieved once attacks on neighbouring states cease.
