Weimer Urges Greater Transparency in Music Streaming

Cultural State Minister Wolfram Weimer is calling for greater transparency in music streaming.
“We need fair compensation and more transparency in music streaming” he said on Thursday after meeting with representatives from several pop‑music labels.
Professional musicians should be able to earn substantial revenue from streaming and track those earnings. In his discussions, Weimer noted that the labels themselves are aware of the problem.

There is a consensus that industry‑led solutions are the best way forward. “That’s why I have invited the labels to take part in a round‑table at the chancellery in the coming months” Weimer said.
At that table, musicians will sit on equal footing with label heads and streaming‑service executives. His aim is to have all parties develop sustainable, fairer solutions that ultimately improve the situation for artists.

Weimer had already spoken with musicians and songwriters in the pop‑music sector in December 2025. Now the labels are also speaking out. A meeting with music‑streaming services is scheduled for next Monday.
