DAX Bounces Midday With Infineon Leading the Recovery

At 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the DAX continued its rebound with a reading of about 23,930 points-up 2.2 % from the previous day’s close. Infineon, Siemens Energy and Continental were the best‑performing names, while FMC, Deutsche Börse and Deutsche Telekom lagged at the bottom of the list.

Analysts say investors are presently tying their optimism to oil‑price developments and looking for buying opportunities in German blue‑chip stocks. This shift has turned attention toward Volkswagen, whose Wolfsburg‑based automaker delivered earnings for the last fiscal year that stayed within the very low expectations set ahead of time, even slightly surpassing the modestly trimmed dividend previously feared. Nevertheless, the outlook for the company has not fully convinced investors.

“Overall, today’s focus for investors is on firms with solid investment stories” said Andreas Lipkow, chief market analyst at CMC Markets. “Shares of Infineon and Siemens Energy benefit from the renewed enthusiasm around artificial‑intelligence, while financial institutions are in demand thanks to the high trading volumes on the markets”.

Lipkow warned that the recent recovery is largely driven by short‑covering and selective buying. He urged caution since developments in the Middle East can change at any moment. “At the same time, an end to the conflict in Iran would require aligned statements from the three warring parties”.

On the currency front, the euro was slightly stronger: one euro was worth 1.1646 U.S. dollars, and one dollar traded for 0.8587 euros.

Oil prices fell sharply during the same period. Brent crude from the North Sea was priced at $91.35 per barrel at noon German time, a decline of $7.61-or 7.7 %-from the previous day’s close.
