VW Targets 50,000 German Jobs Cut by 2030 Amid Profit Collapse

After last year’s sharp decline in profit, Volkswagen appears to plan far more job cuts than had been disclosed earlier. In a letter to shareholders that several media outlets have cited, CEO Oliver Blume states that by 2030 the group intends to eliminate roughly 50,000 positions throughout the Volkswagen Group in Germany. Previously the company had only earmarked 35,000 jobs for reduction by that deadline. Volkswagen had already announced a significant drop in earnings: for 2025 the after‑tax result was €6.9 billion, a 44 percent decline from €12.4 billion in the prior year.
