With rising tensions with Russia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed his desire to steer Serbia into the European Union. He told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that he expects the EU’s recommendations in the coming days and will take them to Parliament. “And we will accept all of them” he added.
Vučić, however, does not believe Serbia can soon become a full EU member. Instead, he is pursuing a form of partial integration. “I believe in the single market, in a border‑less Europe” he said. “If we could become politically and economically part of the EU-without voting rights, veto powers, or an own commissioner-we would be very happy”.
When asked about a possible third term, which the constitution bars, Vučić replied, “Of course I cannot, and I have no intention of amending the constitution, as some media allege”.
