Two car bombs exploded at a busy intersection in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, killing at least 100 people.
The local authorities declared that among the victims of the massacre there are also mothers who were holding their children.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for international aid for the 300 injured, while blaming the Al Shabab terrorist group for the attack.
“I saw the first explosion and left. I was very shocked as shortly after another explosion occurred in the same area. There are dead and wounded, but I don’t know the exact number of victims,” said Adam Hassan, a witness.
“I was at the scene when the first explosion happened. I saw many dead, but luckily I survived. I wish that God will have mercy on the victims and help the injured,” said Ahmed Abukar, another witness.
Al Shabab, a faction of Al Qaeda, has long been engaged in a conflict with the Somali government. Saturday’s explosions occurred within minutes of each other, destroying nearby buildings and vehicles.
