French President Emmanuel Macron said that France and Germany will begin joint nuclear‑military exercises.
In a policy speech delivered Monday at the naval base Ile‑Longue, he called Germany “a key partner” adding that the first steps of the cooperation would start later this year and could include visits to strategic sites and joint drills.
Macron also announced that France intends to expand its nuclear arsenal. “To be free, one must be feared” he said. He further explained that France would no longer publish figures on its nuclear stockpile, a shift for the European Union’s only remaining nuclear power.
