Following the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Felix Klein, the German government’s anti‑racism ombudsman, warned of potential terrorist activity in Germany. He told the Funke Media Group’s daily outlets that it is likely the Iranian regime will use its networks in the country to carry out attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions. Klein pointed out that the link between rising tensions in the Middle East and increased attacks on Jewish life in Europe has been witnessed repeatedly in the past, and he welcomed the security agencies’ measures to strengthen protection for Jewish and Israeli sites.
At the same time, CDU politician and parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Christoph de Vries, praised Israel’s and the United States’ actions that killed the supreme leader. “The terrorist, mass murderer, and oppressor of the Iranian people, Ali Khamenei, is dead. Good on that” de Vries told the Funke Media Group. He highlighted that the regime’s collapse would bring an end to the brutal Mullah rule and free the Iranian population. He called the event a historic opportunity for a free, democratic Iran and for stability and peace in the Middle East. De Vries said that defeating the regime would also significantly weaken the Shia‑Islamist structures in Germany, whose major supporters remain in Tehran. Until that goal is achieved, he stressed the importance of remaining extremely vigilant for the safety and protection of Jewish, Israeli, and American facilities in Germany.
The United States and Israel had launched a massive wave of air attacks against Iran on Saturday morning, during which Khamenei was killed in an attack on Tehran. In retaliation, Iran carried out strikes on Israeli targets and U.S. military facilities in Gulf‑region countries.
