Franziska Brantner, the Green Party chair, accused the governing black‑red coalition of raising Germany’s dependence on U.S. President Donald Trump by planning reforms to the heating law. “Trump could already think tomorrow of stopping LNG deliveries to us” she told the “Rheinische Post” on Saturday. “It’s absurd that we’re locking ourselves into a new dependence on the United States with a massive heating hammer”.
Brantner argues that Germany can supply its own energy needs through more wind and solar capacity, improved storage, and optimized grid infrastructure. “The coalition is simply inflating heating costs for citizens with its gas fetish” she said. “Biogas is already more expensive because it’s barely available, and it won’t become cheaper”.
She also struck sharply at the federal government’s economic policy. “I am surprised every day that a government led by an allegedly business‑friendly chancellor, Christian Merz, is acting in a way that is hostile to the economy” Brantner said. “This administration has money in endless amounts, shelling it out for half as many things that aren’t additional investments, and refuses to pursue reforms. That is irresponsible and toxic for our economy”.
