Nouripour Demands More Freedom for Green Leadership as Polls Stagnate

The former Green Party chairman, Omid Nouripour, says that the party needs more “legroom” for its executive team, citing stagnant nationwide poll numbers. “We must give our leadership more breathing space” he told T‑Online on Friday, arguing that the party still isn’t decisive enough at the federal level and still tries too hard to create internal harmony.

Nouripour went on to point out that the current electoral campaigns illustrate what works. In Baden‑Württemberg the focus is different from that in Berlin or Hesse. “If we concentrate on our strengths, we succeed” he added.

He also called for a bit of patience. “I remember in 2005 when we were ousted from government” he said. “A break like that should never be underestimated. It takes time for things to settle again”. Nouripour emphasized that maintaining a basic level of stability in the leadership is beneficial: party chairpersons and parliamentary group leaders have been working closely together.
