Taylor Swift Reclaims German Single Chart Top Spot After Carnival Songs Slide Raye Hits Number Four

After an expected steep drop in the popularity of the carnival songs, Taylor Swift has reclaimed the top spot in Germany’s official singles charts, GfK announced on Friday. While “The Fate of Ophelia” sits at number three, Swift’s new single “Opalite”-whose music video premiered in early February-has taken the crown. This marks her second number‑one hit in the country.

The entire top five are held by female artists: Zara Larsson is second with “Lush Life”, Raye is fourth with “Where Is My Husband”, and the fictional K‑Pop group Huntrix-featuring Audrey Nuna, Ejae and Rei Ami-occupies fifth place with “Golden”.

In the album rankings, singer Howard Carpendale climbs to number one with “Zeitlos”, his first chart‑topper in a six‑decade‑long career. The rest of the top ten showcase a variety of rock and related genres: post‑hardcore trio Fjort is number two with “Belle Epoque”; indie‑folk duo Mumford & Sons is number three with “Prizefighter”; Ruhr‑based band Der Butterwegge is number five with “Liebe & Revolte”; rapper Crystal F is number six with “Fiebertrauma”; supergroup Universum 25 is number eight with “Die Maschinen wollen leben”; and crossover pioneers Clawfinger are ninth with “Before We All Die”.

The charts, compiled by GfK Entertainment on behalf of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie, cover 90 percent of all music sales in Germany.
