Federal and States Agree on Key Hospital Reform Changes

The federal government and the states reached an agreement on changes to the hospital reform on Thursday, confirmed by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU).

“With the settlement that was reached, the hospital reform can now be implemented on the ground” Warken told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition). “It was worth involving the states closely in the recent weeks of voting”.

The result, according to Warken, is a majority‑viable compromise between the coalition parties that “sets the necessary transformation of our hospital landscape in motion”. The core objectives remain unchanged: the aim is greater specialization and concentration of capacities, which should raise the quality of care.

At the same time, the public expects assurance of basic and emergency services even in rural regions. “We have now laid the groundwork for that thanks to the outcome‑oriented voting of all parties involved” the minister explained.
