German security authorities began expelling offenders to Afghanistan by charter flight on Thursday, marking the first use of a new agreement with the Taliban government, the Federal Interior Ministry announced. The deported individuals were men who had become criminally liable in Germany-charged with sexual offences, assault, and drug crimes-and were subject to compulsory exit orders. The flight departed from Leipzig en route to Kabul.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) explained that expelling criminals is a central element of Germany’s migration policy, providing control, direction, and a clear stance. He said the new agreement offers a reliable foundation for direct, permanent deportations to Afghanistan and that society has a vested interest in seeing these offenders leave the country. “That’s why we act decisively and are increasing expulsions incrementally” Dobrindt added.
