In a residential building in Strullendorf, a town in the Bamberg district of Upper Franconia, police discovered the bodies of a four‑member family. The Bamberg Public Prosecutor’s Office and the criminal police announced the find on Monday, but the bodies were actually uncovered on Friday evening. The landlord had called the police because he could not reach the tenants and was concerned.
When investigators opened the locked apartment, they found a 49‑year‑old woman, a 52‑year‑old man, and their two children, aged 14 and 6. An initial assessment suggests that the man first shot his wife and the children before taking his own life. He had a legal firearm license and owned several firearms.
At present there is no evidence that anyone else was involved. Alongside the criminal police, a prosecutor’s representative and a medical examiner were present to examine the circumstances of the killings.
