Bundesarbeitsministerin Bärbel Bas (SPD) said that a pension at age 70 will not be introduced during the current legislature. “For this legislature? Yes” she told the ntv programme “Pinar Atalay” on Monday in response to a question about excluding a 70‑year‑old pension. The issue had already been discussed in the coalition talks.
Bas added that retirement does not always have to be fixed at a specific age: “It is simpler for the system if we have a clear number” she said. But the idea is to ask, “How can we enable long‑time insured people to leave the system at some point?” The key question is: “What duration must I spend to receive a good pension at the end?”
These questions are currently being debated by the Age‑Security Commission. “I think the SPD should also be open on this” Bas said. The party’s condition is that, if long‑time insured individuals can exit and still receive a pension that preserves their standard of living, that must be ensured. She also stressed that those who cannot work for long periods because of health reasons should be protected.
Bas emphasised that, during this legislature, no decision will be taken on the matter.
