The number of attacks on ATMs is increasing dramatically

The number of attacks on ATMs in Europe is increasing dramatically, Europol has determined.

According to this agency, the types of explosives used are also increasingly powerful and dangerous.

“Extremely powerful explosives are being used more and more often, which also cause the collapse of buildings and the death of innocent people,” said Europol spokeswoman Claire Georges.

Georges stressed that police have identified this growing trend in many European countries, including Germany, southern Europe and the Baltic states.

“The attacks are carried out by criminal gangs that specialize in such explosions and operate internationally,” she said.

The German police registered 287 ATM attacks last year, while the year before there were 268.

By September, Dutch police recorded the same number of attacks on ATMs as in the whole of last year, despite the decline in the number of ATMs.
