Green Party leader Felix Banaszak dismisses the public debates over a European nuclear bomb as pure fear‑mongering. In a podcast with the ARD Hauptstadtstudios he said it was irresponsible to “instill fear in the population with ever‑new proposals that many people can’t even grasp”. By doing so, Banaszak distances himself from former green foreign minister Joschka Fischer, who in a newspaper interview called for Europe to arm itself with nuclear weapons. According to Banaszak, it is perfectly legitimate for Chancellor Merz to discuss the issue with European partners, but those talks should take place behind closed doors.
