German Economy Ministry Reaffirms Gas Security Amid US‑Iran Tensions

The Federal Ministry of Economics maintains that Germany’s gas supply remains secure, even amid tensions between the United States and Iran.

When asked how a possible Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz might affect LNG shipments and overall supply, a ministry spokesperson told a news agency that “there are many other options besides those LNG deliveries” such as the Norwegian gas pipeline. “The gas supply is definitely secured”.

She also noted that it is not possible to say in detail whether many LNG shipments actually go through the Strait of Hormuz. “That has not necessarily been the case in the past” she added. In the end, the responsibility lies with the individual buyers.
