AfD Members Demand Extraordinary Party Conference in Saxony‑Anhalt by March 2026

Members of the AfD in Saxony‑Anhalt appear to be urging their state board to convene an extraordinary members’ congress by the end of March 2026. This is what a motion reported by RTL and ntv indicates. At the congress, the base would openly discuss the current accusations and set rules for jobs in the faction and members’ offices.

The state association has already announced a conduct commission, which the motion says should also be formed at such a congress. According to the signatories, only a members’ congress can clarify responsibility, protect the top candidate Ulrich Siegmund, and restore the party’s credibility ahead of the 2026 election. They claim that the state board is no longer able to resolve the crisis on its own. “Those who prevent this congress share responsibility for a potential electoral loss in 2026” they add.

Around 150 AfD members from the state association reportedly have signed the motion, according to the broadcasters citing AfD counties. However, the number of signatories is not decisive for convening a congress. At least four county associations need to approve such a motion for the state board to be obliged to follow it. Whether this will happen remains unclear.
