The government‑appointed Old‑Age‑Security Commission (ASK), tasked with reforming the statutory pension system, plans to discuss extending the retirement age to 70 years. According to Bild’s Monday edition, citing internal commission meetings, the next session of the 13‑member expert group will take place on February 23 in Berlin.
During that meeting the panel will explore how such an extension could be implemented. One key issue on the agenda will be the amount of deductions for retiring before reaching age 70.
The experts will also consider ways to make working beyond 70 more attractive. Sources say a “very generous” financial incentive is being discussed to reward later retirements.
If all goes well, the commission could present a recommendation as early as spring. Bild also notes that the discussion will include whether civil servants and politicians should be required to contribute to the statutory pension scheme in the future.
