Kyiv’s UN ambassador Andrij Melnyk and CDU foreign‑policy spokesman Roderich Kiesewetter sharply criticized the absence of concrete commitments toward Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference that concluded on Sunday afternoon.
“Instead, the key statements-also those from the German chancellor-were limited to an analysis of the geopolitical upheaval” Kiesewetter told the “Tagesspiegel” (Monday issue). “Europe still lacks a shared goal for supporting Ukraine and a plan for the future European security architecture”.
He lamented that no delivery of Taurus cruise missiles was announced and that Russia was not even jointly called upon to recognize the right of its neighboring states to exist. “We heard none of that” he said. “The western nations’ contributions at the conference were marked by hubris and remained without concrete action guidelines”.
Melnyk echoed the complaint, noting that the decisive question was unanswered even though he had heard some passionate policy speeches. “What would the EU have to do, what must Germany already do militarily today, to alter the war dynamics and force Russia to peace?” he asked. He warned that a “de‑facto status‑quo course for Europe” would prolong the barbaric war for years.
