Federal Family and Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) warned of a generation of marginalized young men. She told the “Rheinische Post” in its Friday edition that “what must not happen is that we increasingly create a generation of men who see themselves as losers, making them vulnerable to authoritarian worldviews and extremist content”. She added that politicians need to show young men that their needs are being heard and addressed.
Prien explained that in the United Kingdom the wage gap between men and women is almost gone – not because equality policy is working, but because many young men fail to finish school and consequently rarely enter well‑paid professions. She also noted that boys face a higher suicide rate, are more likely to become ill, tend towards criminality, and are more prone to violence. Hence, modern gender‑equality policy must look beyond women and also include men.
