Police Union Demands More Police Presence in Trains to Boost Safety

Amid growing concerns about safety in trains and stations, the Police Union (GdP) is asking Deutsche Bahn to deploy more police patrols aboard its railcars.
The union’s federal‑police chair, Andreas Roßkopf, told the “Rheinische Post” on Friday that “we need more police patrols in the trains to ensure safety”. He noted that the federal police currently conduct very few inspections on board and that priorities must shift toward certain trains. Roßkopf suggested that forces could be redeployed from internal border duties to the rail network. “If we increase our presence in trains and at stations, we’ll create a different security picture” he added. “We need real security guarantees that are actually carried out” the GdP boss said.

Roßkopf also backs a proposal for double staffing of ticket checks by conductors, insisting that funding should not be the excuse for a failure to increase personnel.

This Friday, Deutsche Bahn AG will hold a security summit led by chief executive Evelyn Palla, with transport minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) in attendance.
