Israeli defence company IAI has pledged to shield Germany from Russian rockets with its Arrow 3 missile‑defence system. “They’ll be able to sleep more soundly in Munich and Berlin” Boaz Levy, the company’s chief, told the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.
Germany ordered the system for €3.6 billion. It has already been stationed in the country at the end of 2025 and is slated to be fully operational by 2030. IAI has been developing Arrow 3 in partnership with the U.S. industry for three decades.
The technology proved itself last summer during the conflict between Iran and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, when several hundred medium‑range rockets were fired at Israel. IAI claims that more than 90 percent of those rockets were intercepted, and the lessons learned will be incorporated into the German version of the system. Looking ahead, Germany is set to receive the latest capabilities, including defenses against hypersonic missiles, with Levy insisting that Israel will always be two steps ahead of its adversaries.
The state‑owned IAI sees the Arrow 3 deal as a sign of Germany’s deepening partnership with Israel. “Germany is one of Israel’s closest allies, sharing the same values and mission to protect the civilian populations in both countries” Levy said. Historically German exports have bolstered Israel’s security, such as advanced submarines. However, in light of the Gaza war, the German government has temporarily halted some arms exports to Israel. With the introduction of Arrow 3, the Israeli industry now offers a critical pillar to Germany’s defence infrastructure.
