Valentine's Day Gift Prices Surge in 2025 as Classic Treats Soar

According to data released by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Valentine’s Day, several traditional gifts have become noticeably more expensive for consumers last year.

When compared to 2024, chocolate prices rose by 17.8 percent, and cut‑flower prices increased by 5.3 percent.
Those who prefer to treat themselves to a meal outside the home rather than give chocolates or flowers also faced higher costs: prices for food and drinks at restaurants, cafés, bars, and similar venues climbed 3.6 percent, while the overall consumer price index rose just 2.2 percent during the same period.

Looking at a broader time frame-comparing 2025 with 2020-these classic Valentine’s Day gifts have seen even steeper increases.
Chocolate prices are up by 41.7 percent, cut‑flower prices by 38.2 percent, and dining and beverage prices at restaurants, cafés and bars by 31.8 percent. In contrast, the overall consumer price index increased by 21.9 percent over the same five‑year span.
