Valentine’s Day Gifts Prices Surge in 2025

According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), prices for classic Valentine’s Day gifts rose more than usual last year.
The cost of chocolates increased by 17.8 % from 2024 to 2025, while fresh cut flowers were 5.3 % more expensive.

Those who chose to dine out rather than give chocolates or flowers also spent more.
Meals and drinks in restaurants, cafés, bars and similar venues were 3.6 % pricier in 2025 compared with 2024. In comparison, the overall consumer price index grew by 2.2 % over the same period.

In a medium‑term comparison, classic Valentine’s Day gifts have also become noticeably costlier.
From 2020 to 2025, chocolates saw a price rise of 41.7 %, fresh cut flowers increased by 38.2 %, and food and drink in restaurants, cafés, bars and alike jumped 31.8 %. Across the board, consumer prices rose 21.9 % over that five‑year span.
