Union Falls Behind AfD as Poll Numbers Drop

For German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and the Union’s poll share is falling again. In the Sunday trend published weekly by the opinion‑research institute Insa on behalf of “Bild am Sonntag” the CDU/CSU lost one percentage point, now sitting at 25 %. The AfD, by contrast, has maintained last week’s level, holding 26 % and regaining its status as the strongest force. The SPD remains at 16 %, the Greens at 11 %, and the Left at 10 %. The BSW and FDP, with 4 % and 3 % respectively, would again miss the 5 % threshold.

Only 23 % of respondents say they are satisfied with Merz’s performance, a drop of five percentage points from the survey two weeks earlier. Dissatisfied voters now number 67 % (up 5 %), 10 % have no opinion or declined to answer. Across the board, the black‑red government is also faring worse than in January: satisfaction with the government’s work falls to 22 % (down 3 %), while more than two‑thirds (68 %, up 2 %) are dissatisfied.
