DAX Bounces Back Before Weekend Offset Weekly Loss with Gains

The DAX finished the week higher again. At the Xetra close it stood at 24,721 points, up 0.9 % from the previous close. Looking at the whole week, after a series of ups and downs the benchmark has gained roughly 0.7 %.

Christine Romar of CMC Markets said that the shockwaves from the cryptocurrency markets have rippled into equities. “Forced liquidations in crypto drive sales elsewhere and clean up the jittery hands in the stock market” she explained. “A cleansing of this sort is healthy, laying the ongoing bull market on stronger footing”.

Bitcoin, the flagship of all cryptocurrencies, managed an impressive rally on Friday, climbing ten percent in a single day.

In the auto sector, which has calmed somewhat, Stellantis – the parent company of Opel – issued a profit warning. The group is writing down €22 billion related to its electric‑vehicle strategy and has sold a battery plant for a nominal €100. Romar noted that the news reminded investors that the transition will take time and that a sustained recovery of the shares of Volkswagen and its peers is likely to be delayed.

After this week, global investors remain on edge. “They can’t count on a rollback from the US president, as happened in the last market crashes, because this correction was not triggered by a tariff threat from Donald Trump” the analyst added. “That makes the outlook for the rest of the year quite volatile. On the other hand, markets and investor sentiment will need to cool off before they can climb further”.

Gold also saw strong gains on Friday. In the afternoon, a troy ounce fetched $4,933, a rise of 3.3 %, which translates to €134.21 per gram.

The euro strengthened against the dollar at the end of the day, trading at 1.1818 USD per euro, while the dollar was worth 0.8462 EUR.
