Several security politicians in the Bundestag are demanding that German prosecutors systematically analyse the newly released U.S. documents on Jeffrey Epstein.
They want the German authorities to “closely examine the Epstein files and, if necessary, request further information from American agencies” said Konstantin von Notz, vice‑leader of the Greens’ parliamentary group, speaking to ”Handelsblatt”. He also asks the federal government to disclose how much German intelligence and other security services knew about Epstein’s activities and any “exploitive, criminal or pedophilic networks” linked to him, as well as their international connections.
Marc Henrichmann, chair of the intelligence‑control committee and a member of the CDU, echoed this tone. In an interview with ”Handelsblatt”, he pointed out that “repugnant Epstein syndicates” appear to involve high‑ranking figures from society, business, and politics. The revelations, he said, carry “significant compromising and extortion potential” and should be scrutinised to determine whether they have influenced decisions that could affect the security of Germany and Europe. The parliament will pose questions to the security agencies on this matter.
Sebastian Fiedler, the SPD’s interior spokesperson, warned that German links are possible. He noted that, given the many connections within European power circles, “it is by no means impossible that ties could also reach Germany”. Fiedler highlighted the close cooperation between German and U.S. investigators for criminal prosecutions and expects German authorities to be involved in relevant cases. He also raised a potential intelligence dimension: if the suspicion voiced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk about a possible Russian influence operation is confirmed, it would “raise many follow‑up questions that also concern us here”.
