In anticipation of the Carnival season’s peak, the Police Union (GdP) describes the situation as a threat. Patrick Schlüter, the GdP’s state chairman for North Rhine‑Westphalia, told the Friday edition of the Rheinische Post that his colleagues will protect the Carnival and its participants. He said the task is an immense challenge, citing both the sheer number of people on the streets and the still‑present abstract risk of terrorism. Concrete police actions will be decided by local authorities; Schlüter expects mobile vehicle restrictions, video surveillance in selected areas, and strict enforcement of weapon‑prohibited zones.
