Merz Heads to Washington Again to Meet Trump on March 3 in the White House

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is scheduled to visit U.S. President Donald Trump again in Washington in early March. According to the Axel Springer Global Reporters Network, the meeting will take place at the White House on March 3. This will be Merz’s third trip to Washington since taking office in May 2025.

Merz made his inaugural visit to the U.S. capital on June 6, 2025, and earlier this year-mid‑August-he flew to Washington on short notice together with European heads of state and government. That trip followed President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

The Chancellor’s return comes amid heightened trans‑Atlantic tensions, largely centered on the United States’ claim on Greenland. Next week U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is slated to travel to Germany for the Munich Security Conference.
