USA and Russia Restart Four-Year-Old High-Level Military Dialogue After Abu Dhabi Talks

The United States and Russia have agreed to revive the high‑level military dialogue that had been suspended for more than four years. The U.S. European Command made the announcement on Thursday after talks in Abu Dhabi involving Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. government representatives. The communication channels were cut in the fall of 2021, just before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

The restart followed a meeting in Abu Dhabi’s capital between U.S. European Command commander General Alexuś G. Grynke wicz and senior military officials from Russia and Ukraine. Officials said the dialogue is “a key factor for global stability and peace” that can be achieved only through strength, and it also offers a means for greater “transparency and de‑escalation”. General Grynke wicz, who serves as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, is authorized to carry out the exchanges with Russian General Staff chief General Valery Gerasimov to “prevent miscalculations and avoid unintended escalations”.
