Police Union Calls for Stronger Security Measures on Trains After Fatal Incident

The Police Union (GdP) has expressed condolences to the family of the killed train guard and called for stricter security measures on trains.

“We wish the family strength. This has reached a new dimension of violence” said GdP chairman for the Federal Police, Andreas Roßkopf, in the Thursday edition of the “Rheinische Post”. He added that growing crime and brutality on the rail network have been apparent for years, and the union has long demanded increased staffing. “We know that on certain routes, at particular times, train conductors no longer travel alone because the danger is too high”.

Roßkopf warned that immediate action is now required and that rhetoric from officials can no longer be tolerated. He urged both the Federal Police and DB security to be urgently and decisively strengthened. “We need comprehensive three‑person patrols, camera surveillance supported by artificial intelligence, and clear authority for checks and controls” he demanded.
