A 36‑year‑old train guard was killed by injuries sustained after an attack that occurred during a ticket check on a regional express in the Kaiserslautern district, the German tabloid Bild reports based on its own information.
The assault took place Monday evening on a regional express leaving Landstuhl for Homburg. The guard was inspecting a passenger who had no valid ticket. When the passenger was to be removed from the train, he suddenly struck the guard. The guard suffered life‑threatening injuries and had to be resuscitated on the spot.
The 26‑year‑old attacker was detained on scene by officers of the Saarland state police and the federal police. Investigation duties have been taken over by the criminal‑directorate of Kaiserslautern at the Westpfalz Police Headquarters, and the inquiry is still ongoing.
