Russia Escalates Drone and Rocket Barrage on Ukraine Ahead of Abu Dhabi Peace Talks

A day before the scheduled peace talks in Abu Dhabi, the Ukrainian government reported another intensive series of Russian air attacks.

According to Foreign Minister Andriy Yusov, Russia launched more than 500 unmanned aircraft and missiles at Ukrainian cities during the night. The count consisted of 450 drones and over 60 rockets. The strikes struck residential buildings and energy infrastructure across several cities while temperatures dropped to as low as minus 20 °C. Kiev’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that roughly 1,170 housing units in the capital are currently without heating.

Yusov accused President Vladimir Putin of violating Moscow’s promise to halt attacks on energy facilities preceding the upcoming trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. He said that Putin waited for the temperature drop, then massed drones and rockets to carry on what he called “genocidal attacks” against the Ukrainian population.

President Volodymyr Sel enkyj reported that at least nine people were injured in the nocturnal raid. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence stated that the attacks targeted civilian sites, including houses, power plants, and a kindergarten. Fires broke out in Kiev, with flames emerging from upper floors of a building.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte made an unannounced visit to Kiev on Tuesday. He opened with a speech before the Ukrainian Parliament, during which he outlined forthcoming discussions with President Sel enkyj.
