The chairman of the Union faction, Jens Spahn (CDU), has urged Germany to entice founders and entrepreneurs abroad with a tax incentive. “The fact is that we must figure out how to offer investors attractive conditions; if we don’t, they won’t come” Spahn told the “Handelsblatt” Monday edition.
Spahn cited Italy, which provides tax breaks for people who emigrate to the country. “I hear from the U.S. that many founders and entrepreneurs are contemplating a return to Europe” he said. “The Italians spotted the trend early and offer these individuals highly attractive tax advantages for the first few years”.
From Spahn’s perspective, a similar strategy could be applied in Germany. “Bringing in technical know‑how, entrepreneurial spirit, and investors is a smart idea” he added. He acknowledged that enacting such proposals could prove difficult in the black‑red coalition. “In Germany these suggestions are often reflexively rejected, and I am aware of that” he said. “However, we could use more innovation and entrepreneurial fervour”.
