Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) has opposed the introduction of a mobile‑phone ban during plenary sessions. “A ban would be inappropriate because a phone is a work tool in the Bundestag” she told “Bild am Sonntag”. “Nonetheless, I also emphasize that an entire front row should not be devoted only to open laptops”.
Regarding criticism of some members’ somewhat informal outfits, Klöckner pointed to existing guidelines, such as the regulation that prohibits headwear. When asked whether it was acceptable for MPs to appear in a tracksuit, she replied: “I do not assign conduct grades. I would not come in a tracksuit myself”.
